Temporary Art Show 2009

Deadline: Friday 13th February 2009

We are looking for proposals for work to be included in the inaugural exhibition "Temporary Art Show" which will launch the six month programme of events in Temporary Art Space in the magnificent Grade 1 listed Piece Hall in Halifax. Temporary Art Space is an independent, unfunded, artist-run project co-directed by Alice Bradshaw, Bob Milner, Tom Senior, Kevin Boniface & Georgia Boniface.

Following on from the hugely successful exhibition of the same name in neighbouring Huddersfield, the people who are running this art project prepare to be challenged, laughed at or be ignored with an exhibition of their own work along with other invited artists who respond to the broadly loose theme of 'temporary'. No previous experience of art necessary.

Open Call for Submissions: North

Deadline: Friday 13th March 2009

North: noun, situated in or facing or moving toward or coming from the north. North of where? Position is relative and attitude is dependant on so many factors, not just latitude.

Open Call for Submissions: Beer Mats and Beyond

Deadline: Friday 10th April 2009 (not a postmark date)

Always seeking to be topical rather than typical. We want to make a valuable contribution to the endless public debate about our giddy drinking culture. Here is some culture about drinking. It is time to celebrate all that is good about having a tipple. Know your limits. Stuff by artists, stuff by the good people of Halifax. Send us beer mats! Everyone knows that all the best ideas for anything, ever, have been jotted down on beer mats first. Take a beer mat, make into a work of brewing art. All submitted beer mats will become part of the Contents May Vary collection after exhibition. http://www.contentsmayvary.org/

Post your beer mats to:

Open Call for Submissions: DIY

Deadline: Friday 12th June 2009

Do it yourself: art on the cheap, art created using the most immediate resources, art that involves the public in the creation. Whether you call it lo-fi, cut 'n' paste, punk or some other dubious title, it's art that is exciting, raw and not pandering to the whims of the money soaked art market. We have no money to offer but we do have free tea.

If you have an idea for some kind of residency or art vs public toe-to-toe mish-mash or you simply have super work to hang on the wall then please email us.

Open Call for Submissions: Temporary Art Space Salon Show

Deadline: Friday 10th July 2009

This is it! The finale, the show to end all shows. We intend to fill every single surface with art! How many artists can you exhibit in one fifty-three foot room? Wall to wall creativity, the biggest independent gallery show this summer. Blah, blah, blah. Welcoming submissions from all student, amateur and professional artists - there is no criteria.

Open Call for Submissions: Changeover

Deadline: Ongoing

What could be more temporary than guerilla exhibitions in a Temporary Art Space during the taking down of one show and the hanging of the next? Every day promises to be different with variable opening times according to the hanging schedule. The public will be able to see the inner workings of a gallery as the parasitic 'Changeover' exhibitions attempt to occupy an ever decreasing space. You could propose to use the whole space or a part of it for one hour, one day or propose a project that runs for the whole duration of 'Changeover'.

Changeover dates:

Friday 27th March - Friday 3rd April 2009
Friday 24th April - Friday 1st May 2009
Friday 29th May - Friday 5th June 2009
Friday 26th June - Friday 3rd July 2009
Friday 31st July - Friday 7th August 2009

Artists should bear in mind that limited gallery space will be available during changeover and there will be through-traffic and installation work undertaken

One of the larger of the self-contained 15 studio spaces has now become available to rent. It has a large double glazed opening window, allowing natural light, fluorescent overhead lighting, power points and three phase wiring for a kiln. There is a central exhibition space large enough to display two and three-dimensional work. The studios are secure, with 24 / 7 access and parking. They are within walking distance of bus and train stations.
The share of costs is £90 per calendar month payable by direct debit or standing order and inclusive of all charges save a small token charge made for a kiln firing. This is a long established, stable and welcoming group of artists with a diversity of practices, and the studios are successfully run with the absolute minimum of bureaucracy.

Wanted: artist to deliver paper pulp workshops for primary schools

I am searching for an artist who could deliver some paper pulp workshops for primary schools at Cartwright Hall Art Gallery during the summer term. These half day workshops on 16th, 17th and 18th June, would take the Le Plongeur piece by David Hockney, currently on display, as its inspiration. Other ideas about the park and the rest of the collections could also feed in.
We would have a prep/training day with the artist on Monday 15 June during which other education staff would assist in preparation and trying out ideas.
Usual rates of pay apply.
